Katie Cowell Reviews: Rodrigo Braga

Riding on the sound of New World, Rodrigo draws a lot of his influences from Brazilian music - such as Bossa Nova and Samba. His songs are gently melodic, and his voice croons his uplifting and poignant lyrics. He plays his Brazilian fused songs on Spanish Guitar, and describes his sound as Acoustic Soul. Favouring the chilled style of music such as Jack Johnson and Joni Mitchel, he uses extended chords to tell his stories.

He first began learning the saxophone at the age of 9, and was startled at the melodies that would enter into his head as he walked to and from school.

He first started strumming a guitar at the age of 14, and it was his uncle from Brazil who taught him his very first song: 'Hey Jude'.Not just content with the chords he was playing, his uncle was adamant that he sing as well. In doing so, songs emerged and he realised that music was his calling.

'Drumbeatz' is the song he's most proud of, and that is due to its intricate arrangement, and but also its accessibility; the fact that it has a mean sax solo, only ads to its appeal!

His ideal career would be playing the music he loves, with a super tight band backing him.

He is releasing his debut LP 'Between the Waves' this summer, and will be posting tracks online for free for a limited time at his site www.rodrigobraga.co.uk (currently under construction).

At the moment you can hear 3 tracks on his MYSPACE

If you get the opportunity to catch a live performance, you won't be dissappointed. Rodrigo Braga is an extremely talented & competent musician.
