Rickstar, a young singer hailing from the UK, is a
talented young performer with the potential to make a major impact on
the struggling UK R&B scene.
Growing up and living between America and London, singer, songwriter and dancer 'Rickstar' comes from a talented family. His mother, father and godmother are all singers so it made natural sense for Rickstar to follow in their footsteps.
As a youngster, Rickstar was exposed to an array of musical genres and cultures, one being the sounds of the legendary Detroit label, "Motown". Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Diana Ross and the supremes are among the list of many of the Motown artists Rickstar seeks musical inspiuration and influence from. Rickstar channels the sounds of the Motown era with his infectious mix of R&B, Pop and Soul.

Last night at the Jazz Cafe (Camden) I lay witness to the amazing talent that is Raul Midon. The blind guitarist (who also plays various other instruments including the drums) has stolen the show over seas and last night we got to see what all the fuss is about.
Playing a mixture of Jazz and soul infused funk with latin vibes, Raul Midon (New-Mexico born, New York Based) has turned into a breath of fresh air for acoustic music lovers around the world.
"I like to celebrate the possible, the highest, the best of possibilities for human beings," says Midon
He also does this really impressive thing with his mouth by imitating trumpets and harmonises it with his guitar solo's. I know by the end of this you'll be kicking yourself and wishing you also came to see him, and so you should.
Hailing from Lewisham, Lamahra is a fresh new talent with a sultry voice and strong attitude to match! She is not afraid to flip expectations and reverse the gender roles.
Her song 'One track Mind' is one that she is most proud of. And with good reason. She sings in a sexy and sultry way about a guy she sees in a club, and he is all she wants that night. The tune itself has an eerie and creepy vibe - and the song builds as she hones in on her focus.
She challenges the 'norm' of rnb and rap tunes in which women are just there for the man. Not so in Lamahra's rnb world: she spies her man, goes in for the chase - and in doing so- the Hunter becomes the HUNTED!
There is a great sense of atmosphere in Lamahra's music, and she will always write about things that have touched her. Her music is quite emotionally fused, and will always write songs that showcase her voice and send her message across
Born Sadiq Aolabi Makanjuola to Nigerian Parents in South West London, FOLA - as he prefers to call himself- has dreamt of being a singer for as long as he can remember.
He is self taught, and styled himself on the all time greats: Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. His influences are large and varied; from his Nigerian heritage to Country and Western. He does not like to limit himself to conventional genres, preferring to have an array of styles in his music.
Fola has only just turned 19, but possesses a poise and maturity of someone much older. Given his ascent into adulthood, he likes to write songs which document the experiences of someone his age, their problems, and the complications of life. 'Break though' is a great track; with its gentle melody and smooth vocals - and is about a person breaking through the problems that life may throw at them.
Despite making it to the X-factor boot camp, FOLA realised that he wanted to forge his own way in the industry - with his values intact. He was always taught to be determined- and to maintain his morality. He differs from the 'typical' 19 year old boy in that he is sensibile, and would prefer to have his wits about him in order to battle it out and have his voice heard.
For those who don't know you, how would you describe your sound?
A box explosion of Everything Blonde Wild, funny, sexy, cheeky– high energyand everything chocolate – smooth, rich, naughty and lots and lots of other stuff.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?

You are a British female coming up in a male dominated industry that finds its roots in the USA. Do you feel that UK female artists are given the respect they deserve?
Erm that’s a tricky question to answer, as I don’t think it's as black and white as that let just say to keep it simple its hard work as a female, but ill enjoy it when i get there and it will all be mine wahhhhahahhahahahaaha (thats a dracula laugh)
It's no surprise that sex sells, do you think it's fair that some female artist's are stigmatised for this?
Nah course its not fair, sex sells everyone loves a bit of sex, each to there own just because a female adds some sexyness to spice things up, doesn’t mean her quality of music is no good. Besides men sell sex too, hot women in videos dancing up on them, hot clothes, sunglasses, fast cars and everything else that makes the opposite sex excited and we still like and respect there music. So what’s the problem ?
It’s refreshing to see to see; you take a light hearted approach to your music. Urban music has many negative associations; do you think more humour is needed in the industry?
Erm I think it would be nice to hear more positive music but I also think in this current state that the uk’s in its hard to be positive and sometimes as an artist you can only reflect on and write on your experiences and not everyone is finding life funny. God knows im trying my best to smile. When I write my music im just trying to express myself the best way I know how I love entertaining and I like making people laugh/think and experience chocolate blonde. If the crowd I am entertaining can take some of that experience home to add a bit of sparkle to there day that’s cool.
With the recent wave of successful Brit artists in the USA, do you see yourself working over there?
Yeah I’d like to go to the states I think that’s a wonderful thing to experience, performing infront of a different audience to the one I have grown up with. I’d also like to perform in Africa, Japan, Europe and Australia too. I just wanna be happy as long as I can perform and live of it then I’ll go where success takes me. xx
And last but not least.... which do you love more shoes or chocolate ?
oooooooooo that’s a hard one as I need shoes to get to the shop to buy the chocolate. But then that’s what the internets for lol. Soooo it has to be CHOCOLATE yummm!!
