It was a bright summers evening in Camden town, the venue at the time was known as the G-lounge 18 Kentish Town Rd.....7pm the scene was set, doors opened....and so the journey began!3 years ago Fat Talent launched its first ever showcase, later to be entitled 'Fat Talent LIVE'. It has since confirmed its place as one of the UK's more successful talent hot spot's with its signature blend of fashion, entertainment & live music from a cross section of genres; presenting the elite in acoustic, grime,Pop, r&b, indie & hip hop.
Fat Talent began it's journey in 2006 as a bi monthly event soon increasing to once a month, such was the demand. It now resides in the heart of suburbia Ladbroke Grove and aswell as attracting industry contacts it has also become a regular date in the diary for avid fashion & music enthusiasts including local Portobellians.
Over the last 3 years the Fat Talent team have created a multi faceted event touching upon all aspects of the entertainment industry giving aspiring individuals a chance to perform or showcase their material to a targeted audience.The founder & pricipal director Ady Opoko says:
" Fat Talent has become an important platform, paving the way forward for emerging talent ". It has continued to go from strength to strength ,striving towards a universal following of high calibre acts.I aim to create a community that combines music fashion and entertainment, aspiring young people of today."
The music industry also embraces the event, Hip-Hop connections writer Natty adds " There was a gap in the market , for a regular high quality showcase and Fat Talent appears to have nailed it ! we need to push our home grown talent forward and inspire the young, " I have supported the show over the years due to the high standard of unsigned acts. I also find it fun & diverse plus of course it empowers new talent".
With an annual festival and a 2nd monthly show at the Proud Gallery (http://www.proud.co.uk) scheduled to take place - the sky really is the limit.
Associate Director Nana Thompson concludes:
" To date, we have provided a platform for over 350 talented individuals, who are eager to show off their creations and have chosen to do so through our events. Our passion for all fields within the entertainment industry enables us to be truly versatile across the board, from Fashion to Music, to Film; Arts & Photography there is most definitely something for everybody"
