Slicker than your average......

Next month, Fat Talent LIVE celebrates its 3rd birthday, so for all you musicians out there we thought we'd share with you our top 5 tips to a successful performance...

Don’t keep it a secret. We know that sometimes there are Jekyll and Hyde personas who prefer to keep their musical aspirations a secret but seriously its time to do away with all that. Self promotion and building a fan base is paramount to your success, so you need to implement this from the early stages. Also if you bring a crowd there’s automatically some natural energy when you come up on stage – after all there’s nothing better than the joyous cries of your adoring fans even if you do know them all! A crowd and good support is what allows artists to take their performance to the next level and stand out to potential industry heads.

Silence is not golden!!.. Interact with your audience and give them a performance to raise their energy levels. Whether it’s an indie track or hip hop vibe, you can really give an energetic and soulful performance. If you get on stage and get into your own world and don’t acknowledge the crowd your live entertainment skills are bought into question.

What’s that old saying, “Pride comes before a fall”...so please leave the diva act at home lol!...No on a serious note professionalism is key at this stage of your career plus a decent promoter will always be looking to recommend you for other projects. Example: Strolling into the show whenever and leaving without supporting other artists is not good practice - its beneficial for up-n-coming artists to develop the culture of supporting their peers on the night. Also its within your own interests to arrive early, settle into the venue, and enjoy yourself before your performance. Sound checks are key to ensuring that your performance goes exactly the way you want it to, in terms of sound quality. It makes sense to sort it out before the show because any hiccups during your performance slot, reflect badly on the artist and not the sound engineer safely hidden away in the DJ booth.

Network !... These opportunities provide the platform for you to showcase your talent. There are audience members, fellow artists and people from a cross section of the creative industries (at Fat Talent, we can't speak for other showcases). Be pro-active & take the opportunity to interact and get relevant contact details. Also find out what other projects the promoters are working on and how you could get involved. Fat Talent are consistently collaborating on a wide variety of projects with other creative groups which could benefit you and your profile

Final tip. Dressing well ain’t never killed anybody. Come with your own style if you have one and be prepared to WOW the crowd. Some of our most successful artists have shown that delivering a whole hearted performance really reaps dividends. From ‘smart casual’ to the extremely ‘suave’, make sure that it fits in with your personality and most importantly the performance. Remember, as an artist, the stage is your office, your domain and you need to own it in order to establish yourself as ‘industry ready’ and distinguish yourself from the other of artists on the bill

And last but not least don’t forget to enjoy yourself:)....
